What is a Temazcal?

Temazcal is an ancestral Mesoamerican ceremony. Its name comes from the Nahuatl word Temazcalli, meaning “house of steam.” For centuries, it has been practiced as a space for physical, emotional, and spiritual purification through heat, steam, medicinal plants, and ceremonial guidance.

At Ojo de Vida, we honor this tradition through an immersive experience where nature, intention, and guidance invite you to step away from the pace of everyday life and reconnect with yourself.

1. Welcome ceremony

Before entering, we gather in a preparation circle to share the intention of the experience and explain the meaning of the ceremony.

2. Cleansing

Each participant is cleansed with smoke from copal, incense, and traditional herbs to begin the energetic purification process.

3. Entering the Temazcal

Inside the Temazcal, steam rising from heated volcanic stones and medicinal plants creates an atmosphere of deep relaxation and well-being.

4. The four doors

The ceremony unfolds in four stages, each inspired by one of the elements of nature:
🌎 Earth, 💧 Water, 🔥 Fire, 🌬 Air.

5. Closing

We close with a moment of integration and, for those who wish, a cold shower or a dip in the Lago de Vida to complete the experience.
